Americans own firearms for a variety of reasons, but home defense is among the most common reasons for owning a handgun. To help handgun owners learn more about firearms and home defense, the NRA developed the Basics of Personal Protection in the Home Course. This course focuses on the safe and efficient use of a handgun for protection of self and family. Students can also learn about their right to self-defense.
This course is 8-hours long. PREREQUISITE: Must show proof of basic skills of safe gun handling/shooting. Proof of experience can be: NRA Basic Pistol Course Cert, NRA First Steps Course Cert, NRA pistol competitive shooting qualification card, Military DD214 with pistol qualification, or passing the Pre Course Assessment.
